Wales needs a national broadband policy that recognises the tremendous benefit that can be served by focusing on increased access and less barriers to entry of this essential service. Digital, broadband and communications strategy can only assist in the birthing and growth of new ventures, which will be the source of net job gains
In a 11 days, in the United States, the Federal Communications Commission will deliver a National Broadband Plan, as it was asked to do by Congress and President Obama in the Recovery Act. Today, regardless of where individuals live, they have access to telephone service. Congress asked the FCC to create a plan to achieve the same result for broadband service.
The Plan is intended to aid U.S. global leadership in high-speed Internet to create jobs and spur economic growth; to unleash new waves of innovation and investment; and to improve education, health care, energy efficiency, public safety.
In Wales increasing access to educational resources, mentoring, and funding, are now essential. A cogent national policy can accelerate these activities at this critical time in our economic recovery.
